Ivy Tech Greencastle Celebrates National Nurses Week with a New Simulation Center Supported by the Putnam County Community Foundation
GREENCASTLE – Ivy Tech Community College has announced that it will add a state-of-the-art nursing simulation center at the Greencastle site this summer. The project is supported, in part, by a grant from the Putnam County Community Foundation. The lab symbolizes a major step forward in nursing education and emphasizes Ivy Tech's dedication to offering students hands-on learning opportunities.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Putnam County Community Foundation,” said Tammy Keenan, Ivy Tech Greencastle’s site director. “They are a true asset to our community, and we are excited to work aside them as we help fuel the next generation of healthcare professionals in Putnam County.”
The simulation lab will provide Ivy Tech nursing students with an interactive environment to safely develop and refine their clinical skills. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the lab will recreate diverse healthcare situations, enabling students to hone their critical thinking, decision-making, and patient care skills.
Having a well-equipped simulation center on site will allow students to have experience in healthcare scenarios that are less common and that they might not experience during their clinical hours in the healthcare setting. The center will provide foundational tools to promote their education or career journey.

Located on the second floor at the Ivy Tech Greencastle site, the center will mirror a healthcare setting and will provide approximately 1,600 square feet of space for students to grow their nursing experience. Simulations will include labor and birthing care, newborn care and pediatrics, multi-patient triage, cardiac medical emergencies, respiratory emergencies, and mental health assessments. From routine patient assessments to complex medical emergencies, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a wide range of clinical scenarios.
