Position Summary
The Skills Training Coordinator – Urban Forestry & Tree Care is responsible for coordinating and delivering workforce-focused education and applied learning experiences related to arboriculture, urban forestry. This position supports non-credit workforce development initiatives through classroom instruction, field-based training, program coordination, and community engagement activities.Major Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver applied instruction in arboriculture, urban forestry, tree care, and related workforce development topics in classroom and field settings; collaborate on marketing and promotional strategies, including community outreach, employer engagement, and recruitment activities, to expand program awareness, enrollment, and workforce impact.
  • Facilitate training aligned with TCIA, ANSI Z133, ANSI A300, OSHA, and USDA Urban & Community Forestry guidelines.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in chainsaw operation, pruning, tree planting, rigging, equipment use, wood chipping, PPE, and hazard awareness.
  • Teach tree identification, tree health assessment, invasive species management, site evaluation, and basic tree inventory methods.
  • Supervise participants during field activities while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and proper PPE use.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, and program documentation aligned with workforce and short-term certificate objectives.
  • Collaborate with Employer Training Coordinators, community organizations, municipalities, and campus leadership to support workforce training initiatives and partnerships.
  • Support greenhouse and nursery operations, including native tree propagation, irrigation, integrated pest management (IPM), and production scheduling.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, assessments, inventory activities, and program outcomes in accordance with grant and college policies.
  • Support grant-related activities, reporting requirements, and compliance with applicable safety, pesticide, and equipment regulations.
  • Foster a safety-focused learning environment that supports student engagement, workforce readiness, and community impact.
  • Participate in program wrap-up activities, assessments, career exploration, and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
  • Relevant industry experience in arboriculture, urban forestry, forestry, landscaping, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable industry standards and practices, including TCIA, ANSI Z133, OSHA, and/or USDA Urban & Community Forestry guidelines.
  • Hands-on experience with tree care practices such as chainsaw operation, pruning, tree planting, rigging, or site management.
  • Ability to safely lead hands-on outdoor training in a variety of environmental and weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of tree identification, basic tree health, and common invasive species.
  • Experience with community engagement, volunteer coordination, or public-facing initiatives.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills with the ability to engage diverse learner populations.
  • Experience delivering hands-on workforce or adult education training.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools, mobile inventory platforms, or digital data collection methods, preferred.
  • Industry credentials such as ISA Certified Arborist, TCIA certifications, or related credentials, preferred.
Working Environment

Work is performed in classroom, greenhouse, and outdoor field settings, including community and job site locations. This position may require physically active work in varying weather conditions, travel, and occasional evening hours. Adherence to safety protocols and use of required PPE is expected at all times.
