The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (AVCAA) serves as a senior strategic and operational leader within Academic Affairs, working in close partnership with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA). The AVCAA provides leadership across a broad spectrum of initiatives that support the effective operation, growth, and strategic alignment of academic programs.
This role focuses on translating institutional priorities into operational execution across Academic Affairs. Responsibilities include coordination of workforce partnerships, academic grant initiatives, facilities and capital planning related to academic programs, and cross-school collaboration to strengthen Ivy Tech’s impact across education, workforce development, and regional economic growth. The AVCAA also serves as a key advisor to the VCAA on institutional strategy, emerging opportunities, and implementation of major academic initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Strategic Advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Serve as a close advisor to the VCAA on strategic planning, institutional initiatives, and academic operational priorities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with development and implementation of Academic Affairs strategic initiatives
  • Providing analysis and recommendations related to academic growth opportunities
  • Supporting coordination of initiatives that span multiple academic schools
  • Serving as a delegate of the VCAA in internal and external meetings when appropriate
  • Assisting with identifying emerging workforce and industry opportunities impacting academic programs

Academic Operations and Institutional Initiatives

Support the operational execution of major Academic Affairs initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating cross-school initiatives that impact multiple academic units
  • Supporting implementation of new academic programs and workforce initiatives
  • Assisting with planning and coordination of institutional projects involving academic programs
  • Working with Deans to ensure institutional initiatives are implemented consistently across schools

Grants and External Funding Coordination

Support development and implementation of academic grant initiatives that expand program capacity and workforce partnerships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with development and coordination of academic grant proposals
  • Ensuring grant proposals align with academic program priorities
  • Supporting post-award implementation of grant-funded initiatives
  • Coordinating grant-related program activities across schools

Academic Facilities and Capital Planning

Assist VCAA with planning and coordination of facilities and infrastructure supporting academic programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting planning for academic laboratories and instructional spaces
  • Coordinating with facilities and institutional leadership on program infrastructure needs
  • Assisting with equipment planning related to academic program growth
  • Supporting implementation of facilities projects impacting academic programs

Workforce and Employer Engagement Alignment

Coordinate employer partnership initiatives aligned with academic programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting employer engagement initiatives connected to academic programs
  • Assisting with development of employer-sponsored education pathways
  • Supporting expansion of apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities
  • Ensuring employer partnerships align with Ivy Tech’s credit-bearing academic delivery model
  • Ensuring non-credit-bearing skills training is well aligned with industry needs and complements credit-bearing courses

Leadership of Workforce-Aligned Staff

Provide leadership to staff supporting employer engagement and workforce alignment initiatives.

This includes coordination of roles such as:

  • Employer Consultants
  • Talent Connection Managers
  • Career Coaches
  • Apprenticeship and Program Managers
  • Workforce partnership advisors and grant-supported roles

Reporting Structure

The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The AVCAA collaborates regularly with:

  • Academic Deans
  • Institutional leadership
  • Workforce and employer engagement staff
  • Facilities and operational teams
  • External industry partners

$110,000-$115,000 annually with full benefits (exact amount based on education and experience)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, industry partnerships, or workforce development
  • Experience managing complex institutional initiatives
  • Experience working with external partners, grants, or program development initiatives
  • Strong organizational leadership and strategic planning skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community college academic leadership
  • Experience coordinating academic grant initiatives
  • Experience working with industry partners and workforce initiatives
  • Experience managing large-scale program or facilities initiatives

The incoming employee must hold a valid Indiana driver's license and complete the Driver Approval Form to obtain authorization from the Systems Office for operating any College-owned, leased, or rented vehicles as part of their job responsibilities.
