A hold is a type of restriction placed by the College that prevents a student from registering for classes or accessing certain services such as transcripts or graduation. Holds can occur for a variety of reasons, such as if a student does not pay their tuition fees or fails to return school property such as books or computers. A hold can also be applied to financial aid.

Holds are viewable in MyIvy in two places:

  • Billing & Financial Aid → Holds: Billing, Registration, and Advising
  • Billing & Financial Aid → Holds: Financial Aid

In order for a hold to be lifted, students must take action to resolve the issue. If you see a hold on your account, it is your responsibility to contact the Business Office, Registrar, Financial Aid Office, or other relevant office to identify the cause of the problem and resolve it as quickly as possible.

AT ATB (Ability to Benefit) Hold Registration Student was admitted to the college under the previous ability to benefit policy. Speak with the Director of Admissions to determine eligibility for financial aid under this classification.
BA Bach Degree FAFSA - Pell Financial Aid Student is not eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant because they reported on their FAFSA that they have a bachelor's degree or that they are working on a degree beyond a bachelor's degree (graduate or professional degree). No action needed if student has a bachelor’s degree or is working on a graduate/professional degree.

Make a correction to FAFSA if student does not have a bachelor's degree or is not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.

CD Collections Deferred Business Office Student owes a past due balance that has been temporarily deferred from collections. A student with this hold cannot register. Contact campus Bursar/Business Office.
CO Collections Business Office & Registration Student owes a past due balance that has been referred to a collection agency. A student with this hold cannot register. Pay balance in full with collection agency.
CS Consortium Financial Aid Student is not eligible for most types of financial aid at Ivy Tech because they are enrolled at another institution that is processing their financial aid. No action needed.
DH Dean's Hold Registration Student has a disciplinary or other campus hold on their record. Contact the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at your campus.
DP Bad ID Pending Delete Registration This record has been marked as a bad ID in our system. If students feels this is in error, contact the campus Registrar's Office.
DT Deceased Registration The student associated with this account has been reported to Ivy Tech Community College as deceased. If this is incorrect, contact student's regional Registrar’s Office.
F1 F-1 Visa Hold Registration This student is an international applicant. Student needs to provide more information about their F-1 Visa in order to register for classes. Speak with the Designated School Official (DSO) on the campus student plans to attend.
FH Financial Hold Business Office & Registration Student owes a balance. A student with this hold cannot register. Pay balance owed. Contact campus Bursar/Business Office.
GH Graduation Hold Registration Internal code used for preventing graduation from ineligible programs. Contact campus Registrar's Office.
GL Grade Level Review Financial Aid The Financial Aid Office is reviewing the student's Direct Loan award amounts to ensure they reflect their current eligibility based on their grade level. No action needed.

The review and any adjustments to financial aid awards will be completed in 10 days.
GP GPA Issue, must see advisor Registration Issue with student's GPA. A student with this hold cannot register for the next term. See an advisor (required).
GR Graduation Financial Aid Student has or is expected to graduate from their current program. If student is returning for a new degree/program, contact campus Financial Aid Office.
HS Missing HS or GED info Registration Verification of high school graduation or GED completion is needed. Provide verification of high school graduation/GED completion to the campus Director of Admission.
LF Library Fine Business Office Student owes a library fine. Student cannot register until fine is satisfied. Contact campus library or Bursar/Business Office to pay library fine.
MS Miscellaneous Financial Aid This hold can be placed on a student's account for various reasons. Contact campus Financial Aid Office for more information.
NR Non-Return Rental Materials Business Office Student has rental materials that were not returned to Barnes and Noble. A student with this hold cannot register. Return items to Barnes and Noble, or pay rental replacement fee to Barnes & Noble.
NS New Student Orientation Hold Registration Student needs to complete New Student Orientation before they can register. Complete New Student Orientation.
OA Award Amount Review Financial Aid The hold is in place while the financial aid office reviews award amounts to ensure they reflect student's current eligibility and enrollment status. No action needed.

OE Other Enrollment Financial Aid Ivy Tech has been notified that student is attending another institution while also enrolled at Ivy Tech. We have placed a hold on student's account to determine which school should be processing the financial aid and if student has already received financial aid at the other school. No action needed.
PA Pell Aggregate Financial Aid Student has reached or is close to 600% lifetime limit to receive the Federal Pell Grant. No action needed.

Campus Financial Aid Office will review student's account and process their Pell grant award if they have any remaining eligibility. If student has reached their 600% limit, they will not be eligible to receive Pell funds.
PC Pre-Collection Business Office & Registration Student has a past due balance that is at least 60 days past due. A student with this hold cannot register. Pay balance in full or set up a payment plan. Contact campus Business Office.
PF Parking Fine Business Office Student has a parking violation and owes a balance. A student with this hold cannot register. Contact campus Bursar/Business Office to pay parking fine.
PR Warning Financial Aid Student is on Financial Aid warning/alert for the current semester. No action needed.

Once all grades have posted for this semester, we will review student's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status to determine future aid eligibility.
PR Probation Registration Student is on academic probation for the term. See an advisor prior to registering for the next term.
RE Academic Reinstatement Hold Registration Student is on Academic Reinstatement and cannot register for classes. Contact academic advisor prior to registration for classes or to make changes to an existing registration.
RF Return of Funds Financial Aid Student was reported by their instructors as not completing all of their classes for the current/most recent semester. We will determine the amount of financial aid student is eligible to receive based on the time they attended their classes. No action needed.

This process can take up to 45 days to complete, and student will be notified at their Ivy Tech email address once the process is finished. Read more about return of Title IV aid funds here.
RH Registration Hold Registration Most common reason for this hold is student has an outstanding balance on their account. Contact the Business Office to pay balance in full.

If student does not owe a balance, contact campus Registrar's Office.
SA SAP Advisor Hold Registration This indicates a student is in negative SAP status and cannot register without seeing an academic advisor first. Contact academic advisor in order to proceed with registration.
SC Subsequent ISIR Conflict Financial Aid Student account is being reviewed to determine if there is any conflicting information on their FAFSA. Monitor MyIvy and student's Ivy Tech email account and submit any requests for additional information.
T4 Return of Title IV Hold Business Office & Registration Student owes a balance due to a return of Title IV funds. A student with this hold cannot register. Pay balance in full. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information on the return of Title IV funds.
TA Transfer Monitoring Alert Financial Aid Student's financial aid history on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) has recently changed. Any financial aid received at another school during the same academic year may affect the amount of financial aid student can receive at Ivy Tech. No action needed.

TE Terminated Eligibility Financial Aid Student is currently not eligible for financial aid based on their Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status. No action needed.

TH Transcript Hold Business Office & Registration Payment for a transcript request was made with ACH or check and the college is waiting to confirm payment is not returned. A student with this hold cannot get a transcript. This is a temporary hold and will usually be released automatically within 7 days. Contact the campus Bursar/Business Office for more assistance.
TM Academic Termination Hold Registration Student is on academic termination for the term. Satisfy requirements of the termination prior to registration in a future term.
TR Transfer Monitoring Financial Aid Student's financial aid history is currently being reviewed to determine if they received financial aid at another school during the academic year. Any financial aid received at another school during the same academic year may affect the amount of financial aid a student can receive at Ivy Tech. No action needed.

WB Hold All Web Payments Business Office & Registration Student has had multiple returned payments, or fraudulent activity is suspected. Student cannot make online payments of any sort. Contact campus Bursar/Business Office.
WD TAA Workforce Development Financial Aid Student is authorized for TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance) through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. This funding is applied to a student's account before all other types of non-refundable aid. No action needed if student is a TAA recipient this semester. If student is not a TAA recipient this semester, contact campus Financial Aid Office.
WK Hold Web ACH Payments Business Office & Registration Student has had multiple returned ACH payments, or fraudulent activity is suspected. Student cannot pay via ACH (checking or savings account payments) online. Contact campus Bursar/Business Office.
WO Write Off – Bad Debt Business Office & Registration Student has a past due debt that has been written off. Student is responsible for paying the debt although account balance may show as $0.00. A student with this hold cannot register or make online payments of any sort. Pay balance in full to campus Bursar/Business Office.
