Participation

Students who will complete their degree requirements at the end of Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Summer 2025 semesters may participate. There is no summer Commencement Ceremony.

Apply to Graduate

Be sure to apply to graduate by April 5, 2025 to be awarded your credential and receive Commencement Ceremony communications. Go to MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

Graduation Details

  • Check Eligibility
    Students close to completing degree requirements should check their degree completion requirements with their academic advisor to ensure they are eligible to apply to graduate.

    If you are in the final semester of your program, you may be eligible to receive your credential!

    Apply to Graduate
    All students must apply to graduate to receive their degree. To ensure your name is printed on the commencement program AND to receive important updates about the ceremony, apply as soon as you are registered for your final semester or in-progress toward final degree requirements.

    To apply for graduation, visit MyIvy and search Apply to Graduate.

    • Fall 2024 Graduates – Apply by December 15, 2024
    • Spring 2025 Graduates – Apply by April 5, 2025
    • Summer 2025 Graduates – Apply by April 5, 2025

    Order Your Cap & Gown
    Students who will participate in commencement must wear Ivy Tech commencement attire. This includes a black robe, a black cap, and tassel. Check back early spring for updates on the ordering deadline and website link.

    RSVP to Attend Commencement
    Invite your whole crew to celebrate with you! No tickets are required to attend. Students who apply to graduate will receive a personalized RSVP link. Set up your account and RSVP to attend the ceremony by April 12, 2025.

    Students are welcome to purchase packages based on preference, however, only keeper cap, gown, and tassel are required.

    All orders will be shipped to home address within 2 weeks of order being placed. 

  • Gradfest Celebration

    Attend GradFest in May to receive commencement information. Students who RSVP to attend will receive follow-up details. 

    Check back in early spring for a complete list of activities & events!

    • Graduates will arrive at IU Auditorium for check-in starting at 4:30 p.m. and no later than 5:15 p.m.
    • Family & Friends can begin seating at 5 p.m.
    • Processional at 6 p.m. This includes platform party, faculty, staff, and graduates.
    • Program concludes with recessional no later than 7:30 p.m.
    • A dessert reception is available following the ceremony. 
  • The commencement program is available electronically. An online QR code will be provided during the ceremony.

    Note: students must have a completed graduation application on file to be awarded their credentials, receive a Commencement RSVP link, and be listed in the Commencement program.

  • IU Auditorium has extremely limited parking availability. Special guests and those with government-issued accessibility parking tags will be able to park near the IU Auditorium and Showalter Fountain.

    Free parking and shuttle service to and from the IU Auditorium will be offered for graduates and guests. The IU bus will be running the IU Auditorium route beginning at 4:00 pm with frequent pickup and drop-offs (about 10-15 minutes between shuttles).

    Buses will be in service after commencement to return guests back to their parking locations.

    Free parking is only available at these two garages. 

    • Henderson Garage: Two entries available from Indiana Ave. or Fess Ave. between 3rd St. and Atwater Ave.
    • Poplars Garage: 6th St., between Grant St. and Dunn St.

    Check back often for updates on construction and day-of traffic updates!

    Accessibility Parking: please note that there is limited parking located around Showalter Fountain (in front of IU Auditorium) and it is exclusively reserved for attendees with a state-issued disability parking tag. IUPD will be onsite to help direct traffic due to construction near the Auditorium.

    • Everyone is invited to celebrate with the graduate! Tickets are not required, and there are no limits to the number of people who can attend. 
    • Seating for guests begins at 5 p.m. Graduates will check-in and be seated separately. 

Common Questions

No. Graduates can pick up their cords and graduate cards during GradFest on May 2 or check in during commencement. When they arrive at IU Auditorium, graduates will line up by school/program—we will have staff available to guide them.

Yes – RSVPing is required for graduates to attend the ceremony. This helps our team have your graduation name card ready. RSVPing allows you to skip the check-in line when you arrive at commencement.

If you miss the deadline, no worries; you can still attend! Please contact our office to let us know you still plan on attending so we can prepare your graduation name card upon arrival.

Yes. Eligible students can apply to graduate until the end of the term. The application deadline is specific to Commencement and ensures we have your name in the Commencement Booklet and Program.

Yes, graduates will be standing from the moment they check in until they process into the auditorium. Graduates may be indoors or outdoors until the ceremony begins depending on the weather. Graduates will walk up and down stairs when receiving their diploma cover.

We can provide accommodations for graduates and guests who need them. Please let our team know by emailing bl-registrar@ivytech.edu. Accessible seating will be available for students and guests who need it. IU Auditorium ushers will be available to guide you when you arrive.

Students must wear black caps & gowns with comfortable shoes and business casual attire. Plan to give your personal belongings to your guests, as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.

Yes! Students are encouraged to decorate their caps. Note that decorations must be appropriate (no obscene language, writing, or imagery). Ensure that the tassel can still be moved from one side to the other.

Don't panic. You can still participate in graduation by borrowing a plain black cap and gown from someone you know or buying them at a different store. Tassels will be available for purchase in the bookstore.

Graduates who are unable to purchase gowns can reach out to bl-registrar@ivytech.edu we will have extra gowns available.

Commencement is not a ticketed event – there is no limit to who you can bring! We ask for an estimate of guests so we can be prepared with seating. Graduates with young children should plan on having their children sit with friends and family. If you need to update the number of guests you will bring, email our team to let us know. 

No, graduates will receive the Ivy Tech Community College diploma cover when they walk across the stage. Diplomas will be mailed out to the home address on file after they have been conferred. Degree conferral takes between 6-8 weeks after the term has ended. Students are encouraged to check their unofficial transcript to ensure the degree has been awarded.

Students who need to provide proof of graduation for an employer may email bl-registrar@ivytech.edu to request an official letter. Please allow 1-3 business days for us to process your request. 

Yes! Students who belong to honor societies may wear their regalia for the ceremony.

Please email bl-registrar@ivytech.edu to let us know if you or your guests require accommodations. This may include an American Sign Language interpreter, accessible seating, entrance access (ramps/elevator), or audio/visual enhancement.
