What You’ll Learn
This course is organized under the supervision of the Ivy Tech Environmental Management Institute at the Indianapolis Campus. Although OSHA does not require licensing, it does require that workers, competent persons, and inspectors receive annual refresher training equivalent to the EPA-approved training courses. These courses do fulfill all OSHA requirements. The Institute's approved refresher courses bring you up to date on changes in federal, state, and local regulations, provide details on state-of-the-art practices, review the basic information included in the initial accreditation course, and offer participants an opportunity to raise questions and discuss common concerns with other asbestos professionals.
To remain licensed/accredited to conduct asbestos abatement, inspections, or to prepare management plans, you must complete an approved refresher course in each specialty. The Institute courses are accepted in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and in all states that accept EPA-approved courses.
Persons completing the course and attaining at least 70% on the course examination will be issued a certificate for completing the licensing/accreditation process.
Note: Although not mandated by the federal rule, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky (and several other states) require that all persons taking a refresher course must pass a course examination with the minimum of 70%. The examination and a review of the material covered in the initial course are a part of each course. It is important to complete your refresher training in a timely fashion. Although the federal rule allows you to miss your refresher training for a day less than one year, Indiana requires that you take it within 18 months of the last valid training or re-take the initial course. (And, of course, you cannot perform any work while your license is expired.)
