QMA Insulin Administration Certification Training

Administer Insulin. Help Save Lives.

This education module is designed to instruct the QMA in the role and responsibilities of insulin administration. This training is optional for any Qualified Medication Aides (QMAs).

Learning Objectives Include:

  • Define key terms related to diabetes and insulin administration.
  • Describe the structure and function of the endocrine system related to the types of diabetes.
  • Identify signs and symptoms associated with diabetes.
  • Identify treatments necessary to control diabetes.
  • Provide instruction for the safe administration of insulin.
  • Identify complications related to diabetes including signs/symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
  • Demonstrate competency in the administration of insulin.
  • Recognize the role and responsibility for insulin administration by both the QMA and licensed health facility.
  • Understand both the written and competency testing requirements.
  • Understand the placement on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry for QMA with approval for insulin administration and renewal requirements.

Prior to any insulin administration the individual must be currently on the QMA registry, have completed the QMA 100-hours Training Program and successfully completed the Insulin Administration Education Module.

The Insulin Administration Education Module includes all of the following:

  1. At least four (4) and not more than eight (8) hours of classroom training using the QMA Insulin Administration Module
  2. At least two (2), and not more than four (4) hours of practical training that is 1:1 with a license registered nurse
  3. A written examination administered by the Indiana state approved testing entity that the QMA must pass;
  4. A practical examination, which the QMA must pass with 100% competency administered by an approved Program Director of an Indiana approved QMA Training Program Training must be done at an approved Indiana State Department of Health QMA Training Program.

Understanding the role and responsibilities a QMA plays in insulin administration is pivotal in your career. Updated training is required every year.

  • Payment plan – Split your payments into 3-, 6-, or 9-month installments ($30 to set up, no interest).

  • Employer sponsorship – Your employer may fund your training as part of a workforce development or upskilling initiative - ask them today!

QMA Insulin Administration Certification Training

**PAYMENT EXPECTED AT TIME OF REGISTRATION**
   -Confirmation email is sent within 45 minutes of registration, which contains payment instructions.
   -Payment due no later than 3/2/2026
   
   REQUIREMENTS:
   -Hold an Indiana State license as a CNA and QMA
   -Must be employed
   -Facility must have policies and procedures in place prior to a QMA administering insulin.
   
   Course consists of:
   -In-person instruction on day 1
   -2-4 hour insulin administration clinical
   -In-person state testing on the last day, must have all documentation complete
   
   Cost covers:
   -Class time and supplies
   -1 attempt at the state exam, additional attempts are $75
