FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No. Graduates can pick up their cords and graduate cards when they check in during commencement. When they arrive at Muncie Central Fieldhouse, they will enter through door Door 1 to check in. Once checked in, graduates will line up by school/program—we will have staff available to guide them.

Yes. Eligible students can apply to graduate until the end of the term. The application deadline is specific to Commencement and ensures we have your name in the Commencement Booklet and Program.

Graduates should wear their official black cap and gown (regalia) as required for commencement.

What type of shoes should I wear?

The New Castle Fieldhouse floor is inset in the ground, meaning graduates will need to walk down several flights of stairs to reach the seating area. For safety and comfort, it is strongly advised to wear comfortable, flat shoes rather than heels or unstable footwear.

Can I wear accessories with my regalia?

You may wear any approved honor cords, stoles, or other academic accessories as designated by your school. However, be mindful that loose or oversized accessories may become a tripping hazard when navigating the stairs.

Is there a dress code under the gown?

Wear business casual or semi-formal attire under your gown. Avoid excessively bulky clothing, as it may be visible under your regalia.

Plan to give your personal belongings to your guests, as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.

Yes! Students are encouraged to decorate their caps. Keep an eye on the IvyLife page for cap decorating events held by Student Life! Note that decorations must be appropriate (no obscene language, writing, or imagery). Ensure that the tassel can still be moved from one side to the other.

Commencement is not a ticketed event – there is no limit to who you can bring! Graduates with young children should plan on having their children sit with friends and family.

No, graduates will receive the Ivy Tech Community College diploma cover when they walk across the stage. Diplomas will be mailed out to the home address on file after they have been conferred. Degree conferral takes between 6-8 weeks after the term has ended. Students are encouraged to check their unofficial transcript to ensure the degree has been awarded.
